U.S. RDA:

Dr. Atkins:
Men 2mg - 3mg daily, balanced by 30mg of zinc.
Women: laboratory tests are recommended.
Dr. Balch:
Adrenal disorders: 3mg daily in a multivitamin and mineral complex with 50mg daily.
Alzheimer's disease: 3mg daily with superooxide dismutase (SOD).
Arthritis: 3mg daily. Take with 2,000mg calcium, 1,000mg magnesium, 800IU vitamin D3, and 50mg zinc.
Cadmium toxicity: 3mg daily with 50mg - 80mg of zinc.
Cardiovascular disease: consult your doctor.
Copper deficiency: 5mg daily for 1 month, then reduce to 3mg daily.
Cystic fibrosis: 3mg daily with 200mcg of selenium daily.
Diabetes: take a copper complex as directed on label.
Hair loss: 3mg daily.
Osteoporosis: 3mg daily.
3mg of copper should be used to balance zinc supplementation when zinc is supplemented on a regular basis with amounts exceeding 30mg daily.
Dr. Barney:
Arthritis: use picolinate products of both copper and zinc and do not exceed over 50mg of each mineral daily.
Drs. Zand, Spreen, & LaVille:
Optimum daily intake: 2mg - 3mg.
Zinc balancing: 1mg of copper for every 15mg of zinc ingested.
