Vitamin B3 (Niacin/Niacinimide)

Unless otherwise noted, dosage instructions are for niacin.

U.S. RDA:
Men:
15 - 18: 20mg
19 - 50: 19mg
51 and up: 15mg
Women:
15 - 50: 15mg
50 and up: 13mg
Pregnant: 17mg
Nursing: 20mg

Dr. Atkins:
General supplementation: 100 - 1,000mg daily.

Dr. Balch:
Acne: 100mg of niacinamide 3 times daily with a vitamin B complex.
Aging: 50 - 100mg 3 times daily.
Anxiety disorder: 100mg of niacinamide 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Arthritis: 10mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex. Do not exceed this amount.
ADD: 100mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Autism: 50mg of niacin 3 times daily and 300mg of niacinamide in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Breast cancer: 100mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Canker sores: 50 - 100mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Chemical allergies: 500mg of niacinamide 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Depression: 50mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Dermatitis: 100mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Diarrhea: 50mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Drug addiction: 500mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Epilepsy: 50mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Thinning eyelashes: follow label directions. Take in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Hair loss: 50mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Headache: up to 300mg of niacin and niacinamide combined daily.
Heart attack: 50mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Hemophilia: follow label directions in addition to a vitamin B complex.
High cholesterol: 300mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Hypoglycemia: 100mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Migraine: 200mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Muscle cramps: 50mg 3 times daily with meals.
Pancreatitis: 50mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Parkinson's disease: 50mg 3 times daily, of either niacin or niacinamide, in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Prostate cancer: 100mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Repetitive motion injury: 100mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Schizophrenia: 100mg 3 times daily of either niacin or niacinamide, in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Senility: 100mg daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Vertigo: 100mg 3 times daily in addition to a vitamin B complex.
Do not exceed 300mg of niacin daily from all supplements.

Dr. Barney:
Epilepsy: 50mg daily.
Hypoglycemia: 100mg daily.
Menstrual cramps: 200mg daily and every two to three hours during cramps.
Migraine headaches: follow label directions
Parkinson's disease: follow label directions.
PMS: 200mg per day and every two to three hours for cramps. Expect some flushing and dizziness during intensive therapy.

Drs. Zand, Spreen, & LaVille:
Cholesterol, high: 500mg twice daily under doctor's supervision.
Meniere's disease: 200mg daily from all sources.
Nicotine addiction: 20 - 500mg three times daily. Doctor's supervision is recommended.
Parkinson's disease: 100mg of niacinamide twice daily.
Raynaud's phenomenon: 200mg daily.
TMJ: 100mg of niacinamide.
If you take any of the B vitamins individually, you should also take a B-complex supplement at a different time of day.
