The chemical, caulosaponin, found in Blue Cohosh, induces uterine contractions, and should be used only under medical supervision.
Herbalists have also recommended Blue Cohosh for irregular menstrual cycles, inflammation of the uterus, and to stop false labor pains. Its hormone and menses regulating powers work best when Blue Cohosh is combined with pennyroyal.
Blue Cohosh is an antispasmodic and helps to relieves muscle cramps. It has also been found to be helpful in the treatment of toxemia.
