Guarana (Paullinia Cupana)

Guarana has traditionally been used by the Amazon Indians for energy, as an aphrodisiac, and to treat conditions such as malaria and dysentery. It is most noted for its caffeine content.

Guarana acts as a stimulant to the nervous system and as an intestinal cleanser. It is one of the richest sources of caffeine, containing between three to five percent by dry weight; because of this, it should be used with caution. It improves stamina and endurance, and reduces fatigue.

Guarana is also used in weight loss and energy supplements. The caffeine content is thought to work as an appetite suppressant.
