Maitake mushrooms may help treat various types of cancer such as stomach, lung, liver and leukemia. It was the first mushroom found that inhibited the activity of HIV in laboratory studies. Maitake mushrooms are an adaptogen, which means that it helps the body adapt to stress and normalizes bodily functions.
Research suggests that maitake is better absorbed than other mushrooms, and is almost as effective when taken orally as it is when taken intravenously.
As with other medicinal mushrooms, the maitake is rich in polysaccharides and complex natural sugars; with great benefits in healing. The powerful polysaccharide found in maitake is the beta-1.6 glucan, which works to stimulate the immune response. These constituents are immune system strengtheners and disease fighters.
Maitake mushroom has been found to reduce blood pressure in laboratory experiments on animals. It may also help to lower blood cholesterol levels. One study found that 3 out of 4 patients with hypertension showed reduction in their blood pressure while taking three to five grams per day of the mushroom.
Maitake also protects the liver from damage and may even reverse damage that has already occurred.
It appears that the maitake can stimulate the action of the T-cells and prevent them from being destroyed by the HIV cells. |
