So you're going on a road trip. Filling up your gas tank is not an option, it is a necessity.

You would never embark on a road trip with an empty tank, so why would you start out your day on an empty stomach?

Breakfast is the fuel that gets your body moving, staves off hunger until lunch, and provides you with the physical and mental energy you need to get through the morning. Without breakfast, you're running on empty.

Time is always a factor. Many people, who don't eat breakfast, claim that they just don't have time; but, if you have time to get dressed and you have time to brush your teeth, you have time to eat breakfast.

Providing your body with the necessary fuel can be done in less than five minutes – so take five for breakfast – your body will thank you.

  1. Fruit – whether you are adding it to a whole grain cereal or eating it plain, you can't go wrong with fruit. Throw a banana or apple in your briefcase, purse, or backpack.
  2. Fiber – essential for good health and available in whole wheat toast and bagels, whole grain cereals, and fruit.
  3. Protein – helps to fill you up, staving off hunger. If you don' t have time for eggs, pack a to-go bag of mixed nuts.
  4. Make excess foods on the weekends to freeze and reheat during the busy, time-restricted weekday mornings. Muffins, biscuits, waffles, and pancakes are simple to make in bulk and freeze for later.
  5. Avoid high-sugar and high-fat choices such as kid's cereals and boxed frozen breakfast. These options may seem like a good solution, but be sure to read the nutrition labels – you may be buying junk food.
